Age of criminal responsibility:  The age of criminal responsibility starts at 7 years. When a juvenile commit an offense, it is the nature and severity of the offense that determine where the matters will be handled. For severe offenses they go through the justice system, less serious matters are handled through social welfare and the individual may be detained at a safe house.

 

Offenders who are 14 and above to about 21 years are sent to a juvenile prison.  Juvenile prison is a section of a mainstream adult prison.  The sections allocated to young offenders have a capacity of approximately 20.

 

The hours of youth specific training for police varies

 

Diversion pathways include counselling, mediation, family group conferencing, constructive use of leisure time and vocational training especially for those who do not have formal education.
